While gold tools can still break, it takes a lot longer, which means less time building replacements and more time soaking up that island life.

Here's how to find the recipes for all the golden tools.

None of these are something you can realistically grind out in an afternoon. You'll want to keep these unlock conditions in mind while you go about your daily affairs, chipping away at them one and two at a time when you can. Getting A Golden Bug Net

Complete the Bug section of your Critterpedia by catching all 80 bugs on your island, including the hard-to-find ones like fleas. You'll get the recipe for the golden bug net in the mail.

You don't have to donate any of the bugs in order to unlock the recipe for the golden bug net. Just getting them in your Critterpedia is enough.

Getting A Golden Fishing Rod

Complete the Fish section of your Critterpedia by catching all 80 fish on your island. You'll get the recipe for the golden fishing rod in the mail.

Since the fish you can find in the waters around your island are seasonal, you'll need to take your time on this one, or indulge in 'time traveling' by manually changing the date in your Switch's System menu.

Getting A Golden Shovel

Roughly every week and a half, give or take a day, Gulliver washes up on the beach of your island. He'll ask for your help, which requires you to dig up five communicator parts with your shovel. Look for water-spouts on the beaches and dig there to find one.

Notably, if you wait until the next day to give Gulliver a communicator part, it turns into a rusted part instead. That makes them useless to Gulliver, but you need 30 rusted parts to make the giant Robot Hero action figure.

Raise your island to a 5-star rating and ask Isabelle to evaluate it. She'll be impressed enough to reward you with the recipe for the gold watering can on the spot.

Golden Shovel[edit]

Players can obtain a Golden Shovel by doing the following each game. Golden shovels can dig up 100 Bells at random in the original games while they plant Bells to grow money trees in the later games.

In Animal Crossing, players need to dig a 'shiny' spot containing 1,000 Bells. Then, they can bury a Shovel. Soon, a tree bearing the Golden Shovel grows.

In Animal Crossing: Wild World, players can bury a normal shovel. Once they dig up it with another shovel the next day, they get a Golden Shovel.

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, the method is identical.

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, once players have bought 50 Fertilizer Bags, Leif offers them a Golden Shovel.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the player is mailed the recipe for the Golden Shovel after finding Gulliver's Communicator Parts or Gullivarrr's Communicator 30 times.

Golden Slingshot[edit]

Players can obtain a Golden Slingshot by doing the following in each game. Golden slingshots shoot three consecutive pebbles, more than the other two types.

In Animal Crossing: Wild World, once players have destroyed 14 balloons, the next balloon is a gold balloon carrying the Golden Slingshot. If players fail to shoot down the balloon, it will reappear shortly after, possibly two to three presents later.

In Animal Crossing: City Folk the method for obtaining the Golden Slingshot is identical to the method in Wild World. There are three balloons holding the Slingshot.

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, this method remains unchanged from the previous games.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the method is similar but requires 300 destroyed balloons. The gold balloon contains the DIY recipe for the Golden Slingshot, additionally the gold balloon may not appear immediately after popping 300 balloons

Golden Watering Can[edit]

Players can obtain a Golden Watering Can by doing the following in each game. Golden Watering Cans have a larger radius, and they can transform wilted black roses into golden roses.

In Animal Crossing: Wild World, players must maintain the perfect town status for 15 consecutive days. Then, they can receive one from the Civic Center.

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, the method is identical.
